Volunteer/How To Help

Parent volunteers are needed for a wide variety of fun & rewarding activities that will connect you with your student’s interest in music.  You can help to enhance your student’s high school experience & be a positive influence on their future!  All parents are encouraged to be a part of this year’s activities.  Please let us know how you can help!  Thank you!

Choral Booster activities are listed below.  Those requiring parent volunteers are shown in bold.  Please contact DGS Choral Boosters at dgschoralboosters99@gmail.com to volunteer.  Our Volunteer Coordinator will contact you.

1.  Hospitality Committee

  • Boosters provide & serve refreshments before concerts

2.  Fundraising (be sure to check out our Fundraising tab)

  • By selling spirit wear & sponsoring other fundraising activities, we are able to provide many extras to our Choral program
  • Volunteer tasks would include distributing & collect reservation and/or order forms & distributing products & merchandise

3.  Middle School Choral Festival (participating choirs TBD) – Tuesday, January 9 2018 from 3:30 to 7:30pm

  • Boosters assist with chaperoning this event (held at the high school) for District 58 middle school students to introduce them to the DGS Choral Program
  • Boosters provides funds for buses to bring the students to DGS

4.  Vocal Fest – March 12, 2018

  • Students learn how to perform in an audition
  • Boosters assist with logistics & monitoring
  • Several parents are needed for each of the 2 shifts (you may be in your own students’ room)

5.  Annual Spring Musical (A Cappella Choir) – Thursday, April 19 thru Sunday April 21 2018

  • Boosters assists with publicity, concessions costume sewing & alterations, equipment, ushers , & backstage assistance
  • All parents – not just A Cappella parents – are encouraged to help
  • Boosters provides funds to hire a professional choreographer

6.  Spring Choir Show (all choirs except A Cappella) – Thursday, March 8 and Friday, March 9, 2018

  • Choral Boosters provides backstage supervision for dress rehearsals & performances, as well as assists with costumes as needed

7.  Spring Awards Banquet (for all choirs) –

  • Choral Boosters plans all aspects of the students’ spring banquet including publicity, reservations, set up, serving, awards & clean up

8.  Behind the Scenes Support

  • Robes –  assignment in October & collection in March
  • Robe cleaning & repair
  • Supply Scholarships for economically challenged students
  • Select Choir sewing – tuxedo & dress alterations
  • Photography or Videography
  • Boosters presents the school with a framed poster including cast photo as a momento from the annual musical
  • Scrapbook/Historian
  • Bus transportation for Madrigals to attend Chicago Symphony Orchestra

9.  Special Events

  • A guest music clinician comes to DGS to work with our choir students
  • Guest college choirs come to DGS to perform for our choir students
  • Select choir groups perform at a variety of events throughout the year
